Before Apple, I washed dishes for money

Before Apple, I washed dishes for money.

When Apple called, they flew me to California three times, and on those visits I had ten interviews and a presentation in a single day. I had very little money, so on each trip I ate the cheapest food I could find and saved the cash they gave me for future expenses.

After my last interview, I had already decided that I wouldn’t be able to get a job there. How could a fresh grad, with no internship experience in the Bay Area, ever get to work at a company like Apple? So instead of feeling disappointed, I let myself have two treats: a Philz Mint Mojito (if you know you know), and a ticket to the Computer History Museum in Mountain View.

I walked past sixty years of revolutionary machines, built by people who had no idea if any of it would work, and I remember standing there thinking, I hope one day I can build something like that.

I walked out of the museum, and my phone rang. It was the recruiter.

“Farhan, I just got back from all the interviews.”

“Can you start next week?”

…” Can I start in two weeks?”

Two weeks later, I started, and the project became the Vision Pro.
